Everything you need to ride
What it's like to be a rider or a coach, plus answers to the questions new families ask most.
What it's like to ride with us
No experience needed
Whether you've ridden trails for years or have never touched a mountain bike, you belong here. Our coaches meet every rider where they are and build confidence and skills at their own pace.
Racing is optional. Riders who love competition can chase results, and riders who just want to ride with friends are every bit as welcome.

Cross-country: wheels on the ground
Our races are cross-country style: looped courses over natural terrain that reward endurance and steady pacing. No jumps or stunts, just trail skills and grit.
We compete in 5โ6 league races through the spring as part of the Texas NICA league.

Everyone has a place
We keep a small loaner pool so riders without a bike can get started, and we offer scholarships so every kid can participate. We also take part in Teen Trail Corps, building and maintaining the trails we ride.
This team is about community and stewardship, with plenty of fun on two wheels.

Ride along, give back
Our team is volunteer-driven, and we're always looking for good people to ride alongside our athletes.
No mountain biking experience necessary. NICA provides thorough coach education and training. We'll get you up to speed and feeling confident on the trail. You'll watch kids have "aha!" moments, overcome challenges, and grow as athletes and people. And you get to ride your bike while doing it.
Learn About Coaching
Our practices
- We practice three times a week: Thursday evenings, Saturday mornings, and Sunday afternoons.
- We ride trails all over south Austin and throughout Hays County. Later in the season we may travel farther to practice at a new trail.
- Need a ride? There are usually plenty of families who can help kids get to and from practice.
- Practices focus on building skills, strength, and endurance. This is the time to learn and have fun with teammates.
Race weekends

- Race weekends are the favorite part of the season for most student-athletes. Spend Saturday and Sunday camping, riding, hanging out, and eating s'mores with your teammates.
- Saturdays are usually for setting up camp, pre-riding the course, team dinners, and having fun.
- On Sundays the races start early and run until early afternoon. If you're not racing, you probably have a cowbell in hand cheering on the other racers.
- Parents are welcome and encouraged at race weekends. Putting one on takes lots of volunteers, and there are so many ways to pitch in. Either way, come cheer on your racers.
- Racing is optional. Even if you don't race, come hang out, lend a hand at camp and other volunteer spots, and cheer on your teammates.

Frequently asked questions
Who can join the team?
Any student in grades 6โ12 in Hays County is welcome, including homeschooled students. We accept riders of all skill levels.
Do I need my own bike?
Not necessarily. We keep a small pool of loaner bikes to help new riders get started. If you have your own bike, great. If not, reach out and we'll figure something out.
What does it cost to participate?
There are two costs per rider: $350 in NICA fees (learn more here) and $150 in team fees. Financial assistance and scholarships are available. We never want cost to be a barrier.
When does the season start?
Pre-season rides start in October. The official season runs November through April, including regular practices and race weekends in the spring.
How often do you practice?
We practice three times a week: Thursday evenings, Saturday mornings, and Sunday afternoons. Riders are encouraged to come as often as they can. There's no minimum.
Do I have to race?
Not at all. Racing is completely optional. We support every rider at whatever level they choose, from casual trail riding to competitive racing.
What about safety?
Safety is our top priority. All coaches are NICA-licensed and most are first-aid trained, and we follow progressive skill-building so every rider develops at their own pace in a safe environment.
How do I sign up?
Easy. Just fill out our contact form and we'll send you the next steps.
